Project Management (PMBOK)

Project management is the application of knowledge, skills, tools and techniques in project activities to meet project requirements.

Project management is carried out by applying and embedding governance process, initiation, planning, execution, monitoring and controlling, and project closing. Person responsible for achieving goals of the project is called project manager.

Project management includes:

Establishing requirements
Setting clear and achievable goals,
Establishing a balance between the competing demands on the quality, scope, time and cost,
Adjusting specifications, plans and approaches to the interests and expectations of the various stakeholders.

In addition to PMI, there are several organizations involved in promoting project management, of which IPMA (International Project Management Association), and APM (Association of Project Management), are the most important in Europe. Like PMI, IPMA has issued its own set of knowledge, IPMA Competence Baseline and APM has released its own set of knowledge APM Body of Knowledge, and they also offer certification of project managers, as well as PMI.
